Corporate Governance and Financial Performance of Listed Consumer Goods Companies in Nigeria

The study examined the effect of corporate governance and financial performance of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria. The specific objectives are board size, gender diversity and board composition on return on asset of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design. The population of this study, as at 2025 was 20 listed consumer goods companies according to the report of Nigeria exchange group, out of which 10 companies were selected. The research focused on 10 years annual financial report. The findings revealed that board size has a positive impact on return on asset, gender diversity also has positive effect on return on asset and board composition has a negative effect on return on asset of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria. The study, therefore recommends that consumer goods companies in Nigeria should strategically focus on optimizing their board size to improve financial performance. They should aim at maintaining a board that balances divers’ expertise, experience and effective decision making. Keywords: Board size, Board Composition, Gender diversity. Financial performance
